Yesterday I went to my first post-op appointment with my oral surgeon. He couldn’t believe the lack of swelling that I have at only 11 days out! (“You look like someone who got this surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago,” he said.) They removed the stitches from my cheeks and took X-rays to see my progress. (I got to see my “before” pictures of where my jaw used to be. It’s incredible what a few weeks can do.)
I will follow-up several times with the oral surgeon as things progress. My next appointment is at the end of the month, and my first orthodontist appointment back is scheduled for April 1st. I can’t wait to show my orthodontist my progress!
The oral surgeon did give me the ok to eat “non-chew foods”, ie. flaky fishes, overcooked pastas, overcooked veggies, etc. which I may have gone a little overboard with yesterday…so I’m dialing it back today for a menu of steel cut oats, smoothies, some mac and cheese, my Shakeology (as per usual), and tilapia for dinner. I must accept the baby steps of my healing, despite my swift progress!
I still woke up with some muscular pain today….thus confirming my suspicion that I still clench my jaw at night! Gah! I suppose we can’t fix all problems at once….
Today marks the first day that I will be heading back to school. I am a little excited, as this is the first facet of my life that I am adding back in after my surgery: school, then work! I’ll get back to where I was, day by day.
Happy Mardi Gras, everyone!
