When I attended the Celiac Awareness Tour a few weeks ago, I noticed that lentil chips were all the rage- it seemed like every company was selling a version of this crispy chip. It, of course, intrigued me: I am a gluten-free eater, I like chips, I love lentils….why not combine it all? And so I began to try Lentil Chips.
The first kind of lentil chip that I will review is made by Enjoy Life, a company that makes DELICIOUS little cookies that my mom used to buy for me in college (hint, hint, mother…I love to reminisce). The chip, called “Plentils”, advertise 40% less fat and “no artificial anything!”.
Let’s see how they are.
- Product Review: Enjoy Life’s Plentils
How do they look?
The packaging is the standard chip bag. Virtually every chip is intact!
How do they taste?
The texture of each chip is airy and light. They are not reliable for dipping; however, they make a decent snack. The sea salt was fairly bland, but I have high hopes that a more flavorful kind of Plentils would add the spark I need. (The bag states that there are other flavors available, including garlic and parmesan and dill and sour cream.)
The chips were intact, thanks to the packaging, but the taste left much to be imagined. Even more, the serving size of 31 chips pack only 3 grams of protein…for a “lentil chip”, I had higher hopes for the protein level in this chip. The nutritional facts do state that the first ingredient is “lentil powder”, but “lentil powder” also sounds a bit too dubious for me. I don’t think this will be high on my list of things to buy. 2/5
Have you tried any lentil chips yet? Do you have any recommendations?
